ESMA Seeks Investor Protection And Intermediaries Experts For Stakeholder Panel

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has extended the deadline for the call for candidates to renew the composition of its Consultative Working Group (CWG) which advises its Investor Protection and Intermediaries Standing Committee (IPISC).

Cryptocurrency prices fell in December as Bitcoin and Ethereum closed the month at $46,197 and $3,676 (down 18.9% and 20.6% since November respectively). Spot volumes also decreased to $2.6tn. A daily maximum of $174bn was traded on December 4th, up 32.6% from the intra-month high in November.

• European Spot markets reported a new high to 57.3 TWh (previous record in March 2021: 55.9 TWh) with records hit in both Intraday (Austria) and Day-Ahead (France, Denmark, Nordics) markets.
• European Derivatives markets totalled 464.6 TWh, driven by records on the French (73.9 TWh), Dutch (7.1 TWh) and Austrian (6.8 TWh) Power Futures. 
• Japanese Power Derivatives volumes reached 393.5 GWh.
