I want to express my gratitude to the members of the Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee (“EEMAC”) for your service.  I also want to recognize Commissioner Mersinger for her leadership over EEMAC and the staff for their work in taking EEMAC on the road to Nashville, a town with good music and good food.  The last time I was in Nashville, I found myself eating dinner in the same restaurant as Al Gore, who as you know, was one of the earliest leaders to seek solutions to climate change.

• The latest monitoring report includes a special feature on the regional distribution of Group 1 and Group 2 banks and their impact on results in the Basel III monitoring reports.

IMF Managing Director Appoints Rodrigo Valdés As Director Of The Western Hemisphere Department

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), announced today her intention to appoint Mr. Rodrigo Valdés as Director of the Fund’s Western Hemisphere Department (WHD). Mr. Valdés will assume his role as the head of the IMF’s department in charge of relations with member countries in the Americas on May 1, 2023. He will succeed Ilan Goldfajn, who separated from the Fund to become the seventh President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Commissioner Caroline D. Pham announced today the Commission has established the Global Market Structure Subcommittee, the Digital Asset Markets Subcommittee, and the Technical Issues Subcommittee under the CFTC’s Global Markets Advisory Committee (GMAC). Commissioner Pham is the sponsor of the GMAC and is seeking membership nominations for each Subcommittee. The deadline for submissions is March 14, 2023.

CFTC Chairman Behnam Announces Veteran Federal Prosecutor Ian McGinley as Enforcement Director - McGinley Arrives with Significant Experience in Commodity Fraud, Crypto and Cyber Enforcement

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Rostin Behnam today announced that longtime federal prosecutor Ian McGinley will serve as the agency’s Director of Enforcement. Mr. McGinley’s arrival supports the Chairman’s continued focus on aggressively monitoring and policing commodity markets at a time of heightened stress and volatility, emerging digital threats to financial markets, including cryptocurrency frauds, cyber-enabled financial fraud, and cyberattacks. Mr. McGinley spent more than a decade as a prosecutor at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), where he co-led the Complex Frauds and Cyber Crime Unit, and also served as a senior member of the Securities and Commodities Task Force, among other positions.
