The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced Thursday that equity options trading volume was 8,570,998 contracts in September, up 40% over the same year-ago period when 6,139,724 contracts traded.

Johnston will complete his term effective Jan. 2, 2002 and become senior adviser to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Grasso. Mr. Johnston will be succeeded by Catherine R.
