  • CME Surpasses 12 Million In Open Interest

    For the third consecutive session, Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) set an open interest record of 12,057,074 positions yesterday, representing nearly $9.3 trillion, more than four times the underlying value of the highest level of open interest ever reached on any other exchange in the world.

    Turnover in XTF, Deutsche Börse's market segment for exchange-traded index funds and actively managed funds, rose about 9.5 percent in April, to 2.1 billion euros. Of this total, 93 percent was traded in index funds and 7 percent in actively managed funds. Deutsche Börse's share of the European market in exchange-traded funds increased to roughly 70 percent in April, as compared with 63.6 percent in March 2001.   • The Central Bank Of Iceland Auctions Repurchase Agreements For 19.5 Billion Krónur

    The Central Bank of Iceland held a weekly auction of repurchase agreements on May 8 of the maturity of 14 days. The auction was a fixed rate one at 10.9 per cent p.a. Offers were made for a total amount of 19.5 billion krónur resulting in repurchase contracts for that amount.

    The shares of SAM Smart Energy Inc., headquartered in Zollikon, Switzerland, were traded for the first time today on the SWX Swiss Exchange. The public offering price was set at CHF 100. The opening price in SWX trading today stood 5% above that level at CHF 105, representing a total market capitalisation of CHF 79 million.
