NASD Opposes SEC Approval of NYSE's Anti-Competitive Amendment to Rule 500

The National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®), today declared its strong opposition to the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) approval of an amendment to New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Rule 500. Even as amended, Rule 500 continues to impede competition for NYSE listings; it is unjustifiable, is clearly not in the best interests of the marketplace, and may be a violation of the anti-trust laws.

HEX commences legal proceedings against OM for trading in "Finnish" products

Helsinki Exchanges (HEX) has demanded arbitration proceedings concerning earlier agreements with OM. HEX claims that "Finnish" companies such as Nokia should not be allowed to have either their shares or share options listed on the OM Stockholm Exchange.

Three Dow Jones Extra Liquid Indexes To Be Added To The Dow Jones Real-Time Datafeed

On July 25, three new Dow Jones Extra Liquid Indexes: Australia, Hong Kong and Japan will be added to the Dow Jones Real-Time Data Feed. These indexes will be disseminated in 15 second intervals over the Dow Jones datafeed of the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) market data ticker network.

News from the Central Bank of Iceland

The Central Bank of Iceland has revised its inflation forecast for 1999 in the light of recent information about the development of consumer prices and underlying factors. The Central Bank now projects that consumer prices will rise by 3.0 percent between the averages of 1998 and 1999 and by 4.0 percent within the year 1999.
