  • Botswana Stock Exchange Market Commentary

    Barclays became the first ever listed company in Botswana to have a market value of over a billion Pula (approx. $215m) as its shares leaped from P5.40 to P6.40, a gain of 18.5% on the week. Consequently, the combined value of all domestic listed companies broke through the P4bn ($870m) barrier for the first time.

  • NYMEX Board Reaffirms Commitment to Acquiring Up to 70% of IPE

    The New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) board of directors on Wednesday night finalized the terms of its offer to acquire up to 70% of the International Petroleum Exchange (IPE), under similar terms and conditions to those presented to the IPE by the outside investor group known as Plan B and called upon the IPE to appoint a negotiating committee so that an agreement in principle can be reached by September 17.

  • CME E-mini S&P 500 Futures Set New Volume Mark

    Volume in E-mini S&P 500 on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) today set a new record for the second time this week, as 60,366 contracts were traded on the GLOBEX®2 trading system. The new mark is the first time single-day volume has surpassed 60,000 contracts and follows Tuesday's record volume of 56,773 contracts.

  • New Records Set at IPE

    The IPE has seen yet more record volumes in 1999. Yesterday, the IPE's Gas Oil futuresreached new levels when the contract traded 57,778 lots compared to the previous high set on 11 January 1996 when 56,332 lots traded. Russia's decision to severely reduce exports of gas oil, fuel oil and gasoline was the apparent reason for the increase in activity according to brokers.

  • CBOT To List Municipal Bond Contracts At Six Percent

    The Chicago Board of Trade announced today that beginning August 9, 1999, it will list the 6 percent Bond Buyer Municipal Bond contract. Currently, the contract is based on an 8 percent contract. The change will take effect with the March, June and September 2000 contracts.
