    Canada's top 100 pension funds earned an average 9% return on investment for the year ended Dec. 31, 1998. That according to the 20th annual Top 100 Pension Funds report, as published in the April, 1999 issue of BENEFITS CANADA.   • First Remote Member to begin trading on SWX

    On Friday, April 9 1999, Hull Trading GmbH, Frankfurt, began its activities on the Swiss Exchange SWX. Hull Trading is the first member from outside Switzerland or Liechtenstein to take an active part in the fully integrated electronic dealing platform of the Swiss Exchange SWX. The formal admission of Hull Trading to Swiss Exchange SWX membership took place in November 1998.

  • Salter New Media and The Toronto Stock Exchange Announce Broadcasting of Quarterly Earnings Calls on the Internet

    Salter New Media and the Toronto Stock Exchange have announced a program to broadcast quarterly earnings conference calls of TSE-listed companies over the Internet. This service, Q1234.com, will record and broadcast conference calls, previously available only to analysts, institutional investors and select members of the media.

  • NYMEX Reschedules Aluminum Futures and Options Launch

    The New York Mercantile Exchange board of directors has agreed to reschedule the launch of aluminum futures trading from Friday, April 16, to Friday, May 14. Aluminum options trading will begin trading in July. NYMEX ACCESS(SM) trading will commence on Sunday, May 16, for May 17 trading session. The new date will enable the aluminum market to have the opportunity to become more familiar with the specialist market maker program.

  • NYMEX Gets Approval to Expand Listed Months for Heating Oil Options

    The New York Mercantile Exchange has received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to expand the number of trading months listed for heating oil options from 12 to 18 months. On Friday, April 16, the Exchange will begin listing May, June, July, August, September, and October 2000 heating oil options contracts.

    The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) traded an average daily nominal value of GBP224 billion in March 1999, up 13% on February 1999. Total outstanding business in all the Euro money market contracts at the end of the month exceeded 2000 billion. LIFFE's share of the Euribor market has increased to 87%.   • CME to list Mid-Sized Options on BFP Milk beginning April 12

    The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) will launch mid-sized options on its successful basic formula price (BFP) milk contract, beginning Monday, April 12. The options, sized at one-half of one BFP milk futures contract and representing 100,000 pounds of milk, will provide additional flexibility for risk management in the dairy industry and will complement the CME's 50,000 and 200,000 pound options.

  • CME QBI to Be Transferred To GLOBEX2 Electronic Trading System

    The CME Quarterly Bankruptcy Index (QBI) contract is scheduled to be transferred to the GLOBEX®2 electronic trading system from its open outcry pit on Monday, April 19, 1999.
