LIFFE Trades Record Value In 2000

A record £61 trillion ($90/ ?95 trillion) worth of contracts was traded on the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) during 2000, resulting in an average daily nominal value traded of £239 billion ($357/?379 billion), an increase of 21% on 1999. More business by value is entrusted to LIFFE's electronic trading system than to any other electronic exchange in the world, making LIFFE the largest exchange in Europe and the second largest exchange in the world by value.

Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited Sets Margin Rates For Bank Of East Asia And Legend Futures Contracts

Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, has set margin rates for The Bank of East Asia Limited (BEA) Futures contract and Legend Holdings Limited (LEH) Futures contract. Both contracts will be introduced on Monday, 8 January 2001.

Deutsche Börse: Successful Launch For New Index Funds In XTF Segment - 68 Million Euros In Turnover On First Day

The newly listed index funds on the DAX, Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 and Dow Jones Stoxx 50 in Deutsche Börse's XTF trading segment got off to a very successful start, as the company reports: volume of 67.9 million euros was traded in the products in Frankfurt on Wednesday. Copenhagen Stock Exchange: The Equity Market Closed 2000 Handsomely, December Above Average

In December 2000, equity trading was DKK 67.6 billion. The value of average daily trading amounted to DKK 3.6 billion, a 59 per cent rise compared with the corresponding month a year earlier and 5 per cent higher than in November 2000.

Trading volume on Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) soared to the second highest level in the exchange’s 103-year history Wednesday as the Federal Reserve Board unexpectedly trimmed key short-term interest rates. Yesterday’s single-day volume of 2,115,007 has been surpassed only once before, on Feb. 4, 1994, when 2,191,819 contracts were traded—also the day of a Fed rate move.

The Central Bank of Iceland held a weekly auction of repurchase agreements on January 3 of the maturity of 13 days. The auction was a fixed rate one at 11.4 per cent p.a. Offers were made for a total amount of 26.4 billion krónur resulting in repurchase contracts for that amount.

The SET Index closed on December 29 at 269.19, down by 212.73 points or 44.14 % from the previous month. Nasdaq Trades More Than Three Billion Shares For The First Time

The Nasdaq Stock Market® announced today that it experienced its heaviest trading session ever, with preliminary figures showing than 3.120 billion shares were traded. It was the first time more than 3 billion shares were traded on Nasdaq. Nasdaq’s previous record was set on April 4, 2000, when 2.88 billion shares changed hands.
