SEC: Proposed Amendments To Rule 17a-8 On Mergers Of Affiliated Investment Companies

The Securities and Exchange Commission today issued proposed amendments to Rule 17a-8 under the Investment Company Act of 1940. Rule 17a-8 allows affiliated investment companies (funds) to merge without obtaining a specific exemptive order from the Commission. The proposed amendments are designed to permit fund mergers that are consistent with the protection of fund investors, but without the expense and delay of obtaining individual exemptive orders.

On Monday 12 November a total of six warrants related to underlying shares in Nokia and Ericsson will be admitted to listing on Oslo Børs. Trading on the London Stock Exchange's markets during October set new records. The total number of trades was 5.03 million - up 51 per cent on October 2000 (3.34 million). This is the first time there have been more than 5 million trades in one month. The average daily figure in October was 219,000 trades, compared with 152,000 in the same month last year.
