The Profits Of Public Shareholding Companies Listed On The Amman Stock Exchange For The Year 2022 Is The Highest Historically

Mr. Mazen Wathaifi Chief Executive Officer of Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) said that 95.2% out of 169 listed companies have provided the ASE with their audited annual financial statements for the period ended 31/12/2022 during the specified period in the Directives of Listing Securities ended on 31/3/2023, through the e- disclosure System XBRL. This high percentage reflects the compliance of listed companies with the laws and regulations, and the compliance of such companies with the principles of transparency and disclosure. The profits after tax attributed to shareholders for the public shareholding companies listed on ASE that provided the stock exchange with its financial statements amounted to JD2421.9 million, compared to JD1305.9 million for the same companies of year 2021, an increase of 85.5%, these profits are unprecedented historically by these companies. The profits before tax amounted to JD3348.6 million for the year 2022, compared to JD1815.3 million for the year 2021, which represents an increase of 84.5%.

After listening to many dinner speakers through the years, I am well aware that after the entrees are served, no one wants to hear someone blabber for 45 minutes. So, I will try to keep this short to leave enough time for a robust discussion afterward, which I hope my remarks will generate.

Thanks to President Kasey Buckles and the program committee for affording me the opportunity to give the C. Woody Thompson Memorial Lecture. It is a pleasure to be back in the Midwest. Before joining the Federal Reserve, I taught economics at Michigan State University, which I chose for its bird's-eye view of the industrial Midwest. Big 10 rivalries aside, Ohio and Michigan share quite a lot, including many of the same economic concerns and interests.

Today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen met with European Commission Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager. They discussed the United States’ implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act and the European Union’s Green Deal Industrial Plan, developments in the international financial system, and the Clean Energy Incentives Dialogue. The Dialogue was announced by President Biden and President von der Leyen on March 10, when they stressed the importance of implementing U.S. and EU incentive programs so that they are mutually reinforcing. Secretary Yellen and EVP Vestager co-chaired the first meeting of the Dialogue today, during which they discussed the future work plan. The Dialogue aims to facilitate (i) the sharing of information on the respective incentive programs of the United States and the EU and (ii) the joint analysis of non-market policies and practices of third parties that create dependencies on non-market economies for clean energy goods and technologies.
