The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement today announced a preliminary settlement in principle with UBS Securities LLC and UBS Financial Services, Inc. (collectively, UBS) including proposed charges and a plan that would restore approximately $22 billion in liquidity to its customers who invested in auction rate securities (ARS). This plan includes approximately $8.2 billion for individual investors, small businesses, and charitable organizations, $3.3 billion for holders

At a press conference held on 7 August 2008, the WSE presented the results of a cyclical study concerning the share of each group of investors in WSE trading in the first half of 2008. The participation of Polish institutional investors in equity trading amounted to 41 percent which was the highest level in the history of the study (i.e. since 1997). Clearstream’s Activity Figures For July 2008 - International Bond Business Continues To Grow

In July 2008, the value of assets under custody on behalf of customers registered a 1 percent rise at € 10.8 trillion (compared to € 10.6 trillion from July 2007). Securities held under custody in Clearstream’s international business experienced a rise of 6 percent from € 4.8 to € 5.2 trillion and domestic German securities held under custody decreased by 2 percent from € 5.7X trillion to € 5.6 trillion.
