BM&FBOVESPA Registers Record Number Of BOVA11 ETF Trades

In today’s trading session BM&FBOVESPA registered an all-time record number of trades in BOVA11 ETF, an index fund that tracks the performance of the BOVESPA Index (Ibovespa). There were 10,154 trades of 5,004,510 units, resulting in a BRL 271.78 million financial volume. The previous record was 10,001 trades on August 08, 2011.

Standard & Poor's Announces Changes In The S&P/TSX Canadian Indices

Standard & Poor's will make the following changes in the S&P/TSX Canadian Indices:

The Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd (TSX:CP) announced changes to the Board of Directors today. Among others, William Ackman who represents Pershing Square was elected to the board. Pershing Square owns about 14% of the outstanding shares of Canadian Pacific Railway. As a result of the director changes, the relative weight of Canadian Pacific Railway will decrease in the S&P/TSX Composite and Capped Composite, the S&P/TSX Equity and Capped Equity, the S&P/TSX Composite Dividend, the S&P/TSX 60 and 60 Capped, the S&P/TSX Equity 60 and the S&P/TSX Capped Industrials indices. There will be no weight change effective in the S&P/TSX Composite Equal Weight and Canadian Dividend Aristocrats, S&P/TSX 60 Equal Weight and 60 130/30 Strategy indices. These changes will be effective after close on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

Moody's Downgrades Spanish Banks - Ratings Carry Negative Outlooks Or Remain On Review For Downgrade

Moody's Investors Service has today downgraded by one to three notches the long-term debt and deposit ratings for 16 Spanish banks and Santander UK PLC, a UK-domiciled subsidiary of Banco Santander (Spain) SA. The rating downgrades primarily reflect the concurrent downgrades of most of these banks' standalone credit assessments, and in five cases also Moody's assessment that the Spanish government's ability to provide support to the banks has reduced.

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the filing of a civil lawsuit against the recently arrested Robert H. "Bob" Van Zandt, who is currently in custody after being indicted May 14 by a Bronx County Grand Jury on multiple charges of securities fraud, money laundering and grand larceny for an alleged multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme. Today's civil lawsuit charges that Van Zandt targeted clients of his tax-preparation business, the Van Zandt Agency, and abused his knowledge of clients' finances to lure unsophisticated investors into high-risk bets for purported development ventures that he owned or controlled, and stocks.
