The NYSE Group, Inc. today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of March 15, 2012.

Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest increased to 12,833,568,653 shares from 12,576,361,344 shares (revised) on February 29, 2012. This was a increase of 257,207,309 shares.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury today announced that President Obama’s nominee for the World Bank presidency, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, will travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Beijing, China; Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; New Delhi, India; Brasilia, Brazil; and Mexico City, Mexico on March 27-April 9, 2012. Dr. Kim will meet with heads of state, finance ministers, and other stakeholders to solicit their priorities for the World Bank over the coming years.

At the end of the settlement date of March 15, 2012, short interest in 2,252 NASDAQ Global Market^SM securities totaled 6,578,692,977 shares compared with 6,434,814,070 shares in 2,258 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of February 29, 2012. The mid-March short interest represents 3.85 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 3.55 days for the prior reporting period.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announces that on Thursday, March 29, 2012, the CFTC’s Technology Advisory Committee (the “TAC”) will hold a public meeting at the Commission’s headquarters in Washington, DC from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This meeting will focus on three significant issues facing the futures and swaps industries as the Commission continues to finalize rules under the Dodd-Frank Act. Those issues are: (1) automated and high frequency trading (HFT): exchange oversight and definitions; (2) final recommendations from the Subcommittee on Data Standardization; and (3) credit limit checks: market structure and technology issues.

DTCC’s AIP Service Set To Help Broker/Dealers With Possession And Control Requirements

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) announced today that its Alternative Investment Product service (AIP) is now able to facilitate the custody of uncertificated alternative investments for broker/dealers who process these securities on AIP. This development follows a recent Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rule filing by DTCC's subsidiary, National Securities Clearing Corporation (NSCC), aimed at providing greater efficiency, standardization, automation and improved transparency for the custody of uncertificated alternative investments.

U.S. Agencies Propose Revisions To Leveraged Finance Guidance

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (the agencies) are seeking comment on proposed revisions to the interagency leveraged finance guidance issued in 2001. Transactions that are covered by this guidance are characterized by a borrower with a degree of financial or cash flow leverage that significantly exceeds industry norms as measured by various debt, cash flow, or other ratios.

Philippe Guillot has been appointed Executive Director of the Markets Directorate, with effect from 19 March 2012. The Markets Directorate is a new entity formed in 2011 to monitor the markets, infrastructures and market stakeholders. With a headcount of around 40, it reports to the Asset Management and Markets Directorate, run by Arnaud Oseredczuk.
