BM&FBOVESPA Celebrates The Start Of Trading In Benchmark Equity Index Futures Contracts Of The BRICS Exchanges

BM&FBOVESPA hosted an event today that marked the start of trading in the benchmark equity index futures contracts of the founding members of the BRICS Exchanges Alliance of the BRICS countries, representing the emerging markets bloc. Invited to the traditional ringing of the opening bell were Ambassador Affonso de Alencastro Massot, head of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry’s representative office in São Paulo, as well as the consuls to Brazil Mikhail Troyanskiy (Russia), G.V Srinivas (India), Hy Ying (China) and Yusuf Omar (South Africa). Representing BM&FBOVESPA were Equity Products Officer Julio Ziegelman and the consultant Marta Alves (see photo).

Three U.S. Federal Agencies Clarify Effective Date For Section 716 Of The Dodd-Frank Act

Three federal financial regulatory agencies on Friday issued guidance clarifying that the effective date of section 716, the so-called Swaps Pushout provision, of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act is July 16, 2013.  The guidance is being issued by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency after receiving inquiries seeking clarification about the effective date.  Section 716 prohibits certain types of Federal assistance, such as discount window lending and deposit insurance, for certain uses to a swaps entity, subject to specified exceptions, with respect to its swap, security-based swap, or other activity.

(ISDA) today announced the outcome of the annual process to determine members of ISDA's five regional Determinations Committees, which together comprise the global decision-making structure around events in the credit default swaps (CDS) industry.

This week showed moderate trading volumes in both cash as well as derivatives trading. In cash TOM MTF showed a market share of 3.1% in ING and 2.5% in Aegon, for derivatives TOM MTF has an overall market share of 14% this week in the classed offered.

Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), issued the following statement today:

“I welcome the decision of Euro Area Ministers to strengthen the European firewall. The IMF has long emphasized that enhanced European and global firewalls, together with the implementation of strong policy frameworks, are critical for ending the crisis and securing international financial stability. The combination of the ESM and the EFSF, along with other recent European efforts, will strengthen the European firewall and support the IMF’s efforts to increase its available resources for the benefit of all our members.”
