Nodal Exchange Achieves Year Over Year Growth In All Markets

Nodal Exchange announced new trading records in power and environmental futures. In power, Nodal achieved a year-to-date record with January to November 2023 traded power futures volume of 2.574 billion MWh, up 15% from the same period in 2022. In November, Nodal Exchange traded volume was 219.2 million MWh, up 11% from November 2022. Nodal continues to be the market leader in North American power futures having the majority share of the open interest with 1.283 billion MWh at the end of November. The open interest represents over $116.5 billion of notional value (both sides).

Today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen met with Mexican Secretary of Finance and Public Credit Ramírez de la O. Secretary Yellen and Secretary Ramírez de la O discussed key aspects of the U.S.-Mexico economic relationship, including how both countries can take advantage of stronger economic integration. They also exchanged views on shared priorities, including strengthening information sharing to combat illicit finance, measures to protect both countries’ national security through bolstering their critical supply chains and cooperation on cross-border payments.

These draft recommendations urge that the Commission amend existing rules instead of adopting new ones.

SIFMA Economic Survey Year-End Findings Focus On The Consumer, Inflation, And Monetary Policy

SIFMA today unveiled the results of its biannual survey of the chief U.S. economists from over 20 global and regional financial institutions. It includes expectations for key economic metrics and policy moves, including key findings such as 87% of survey respondents believing there will be no more rate hikes from the Fed, and the expectation of rate cuts in 2Q24.

Trading volume on swap execution facilities reached $1.23 trillion in average notional value per day during November 2023, the fourth highest level ever recorded. This was down 5.7% from the previous month but up 58.9% from the same month of the previous year. Compared to October 2023, trading was up in the FX and interest rate sectors, with trading of interest rate swaps reaching its highest level ever. -

On December 7, 2023, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Janet L. Yellen, and Mexico’s Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) to affirm the importance of foreign investment screening in protecting national security and express their desire to establish a bilateral working group for regular exchanges of information about how investment screening can best protect national security.
