Two Hedge Fund Managers Sentenced In New York To Three Year Prison Terms For Defrauding Investors Of Nearly $1 Million
Michael Katz and Christopher Fardella, two former hedge fund managers, were each sentenced yesterday to three years in prison for their roles in defrauding investors out of nearly $1 million, announced Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Katz and Fardella each pleaded guilty in October 2011 to one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and mail fraud and one count of securities fraud before U.S. District Judge Laura T. Swain, who also imposed today’s sentences.

CFTC Approves Application Of DTCC Data Repository, LLC For Provisional Registration As A Swap Data Repository
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on September 19, 2012, approved the application of DTCC Data Repository, LLC for provisional registration as a swap data repository pursuant to section 21 of the Commodity Exchange Act and section 49.3(b) of the Commission’s regulations.

SEC Freezes Assets Of Insider Trader In Burger King Stock
The Securities and Exchange Commission today obtained an emergency court order to freeze the assets of a stockbroker who used nonpublic information from a customer and engaged in insider trading ahead of Burger King’s announcement that it was being acquired by a New York private equity firm.

When I spoke to you last fall, I updated you on market structure changes and the volatility we've seen in the markets since the flash crash in May 2010. Since then, we've experienced other significant trading-related issues, including the Knight Capital trading glitch on August 1. Keeping up with computerized trading and market structure changes is a never-ending challenge for regulators.
