ESMA Sees Improved Securities Market Conditions, Although Risks Remain Elevated

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published its first Report on Trends, Risks and Vulnerabilities No. 1, 2014, and its Risk Dashboard for 4Q 2013. The report looks at the performance of EU securities markets, assessing both trends and risks in order to develop a comprehensive picture of systemic and macro-prudential risks in the EU that can serve both national and EU bodies in their risk assessments.

LCH.Clearnet SA (LCH.Clearnet) has launched €GCPlus, a central clearing service for the tri-party repo market, in collaboration with Euroclear and the Banque de France. The new service will enable fixed income trading desks, treasurers and other market participants to efficiently manage Eurosystem eligible collateral and to generate liquidity in a cleared environment, while benefitting from balance sheet netting and capital efficiencies.

The Joint Committee of the three European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs - EBA, ESMA and EIOPA) launched today a public consultation on its draft Guidelines on the convergence of practices aimed at ensuring consistency of supervisory coordination arrangements for financial conglomerates. This public consultation will run until 12 June 2014.
