Office Of Financial Research Update: “How Safe Are Central Counterparties In Derivatives Markets?”

The OFR issued a working paper, titled, “How Safe are Central Counterparties in Derivatives Markets?” This paper uses credit default swap data to estimate the direct and indirect impacts of a default by CCP counterparties in derivatives trades. It finds that a CCP could be more vulnerable to failure than conventional stress tests have shown.

Thomson Reuters Launches Latest Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report - Highlights Relationship Between Decarbonization Strategies And Long-Term Financial Performance

Thomson Reuters today released its report, Global 250 Greenhouse Gas Emitters: A New Business Logic, in tandem with the United Nation’s flagship emissions gap report. Both reports were released in advance of the upcoming Climate Change Conference (COP 23). The report was written in collaboration with CDP, an international not-for-profit organization holding the world’s largest collection of self-disclosed corporate environmental data, Constellation Research and Technology, a team of sustainability experts from Yale University, and BSD consulting, a global sustainability consultancy. Key contributions were also made from Baker McKenzie, KPMG, State Street GlobalExchange, the United Nations Gigaton Coalition, and the Norwegian Climate and Environment Ministry, and the European Space Agency.

- Automated advice brings its own risks, of course, but well-designed models have great potential for compliance risk reduction.

ISDA To Produce Comprehensive Analysis And Global Roadmap On Benchmarks Transition

The International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Inc. (ISDA) has announced that it has begun a comprehensive analysis of the issues and potential solutions related to transitioning financial market contracts and practices to new alternative riskfree rates (RFRs). The analysis will include a targeted global survey of buy- and sell-side firms and infrastructure providers to identify the means by which market participants can effectively implement regional benchmark transitions, as well as highlight possible challenges.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today issued an Order filing and simultaneously settling charges against Morgan Stanley and Co. Incorporated (Morgan Stanley), a registered Futures Commission Merchant (FCM), for non-compliance with applicable rules governing Part 17 Large Trader reports to the CFTC spanning a ten-year period and affecting thousands of line items of information.
