Financial Services Industry Commends SEC On Final Rule To Facilitate A Shorter Settlement Cycle In U.S. - A Two-Day Settlement Cycle Will Yield Numerous Benefits For Investors, Regulators And Market Participants

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), ICI and SIFMA, on behalf of the T+2 Industry Steering Committee (T+2 ISC), commend the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for finalizing rule changes that facilitate the industry’s transformational effort to achieve a two-day settlement cycle (T+2). The revised SEC rule establishes a standard settlement timeframe of two days for U.S. equity, corporate and municipal bond, and unit investment trust (UIT) trades, providing regulatory certainty to promote a coordinated and effective industry transition to T+2 on September 5, 2017.

EBA Publishes Annual Assessment Of EU Supervisory Colleges For 2016

The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today its 2016 annual assessment of EU supervisory colleges, which are established for the effective supervision of EU cross-border banking groups. The Report highlighted a number of achievements made by colleges in the course of 2016, including a good level and quality of engagement, and also identified areas for improvement as well as topics for supervisory attention for 2017. The Report relied on the EBA staff observations gained through their participation in colleges of supervisors and on the consolidated results of the individual college assessments conducted at the end of 2016.

SEC Adopts T+2 Settlement Cycle For Securities Transactions

The Securities and Exchange Commission today adopted an amendment to shorten by one business day the standard settlement cycle for most broker-dealer securities transactions. Currently, the standard settlement cycle for these transactions is three business days, known as T+3. The amended rule shortens the settlement cycle to two business days, T+2.

UK's Financial Conduct Authority Wins London Whale Identity Case

The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) won a landmark case in the the U.K. Supreme Court over the identification of individuals in its public censure notices, overturning decisions in the lower courts that had threatened to complicate the FCA’s ability to enforce market rules. The case was brought against the FCA by Achilles Macris, the former JP Morgan executive who managed the 'London Whale' trader.

Reuters: EU To Formally Veto Deutsche Boerse LSE Merger Shortly: Sources

The European Commission will shortly veto a proposed merger between Deutsche Boerse and the London Stock Exchange, four sources close to the matter said on Wednesday, scuppering plans to create Europe's biggest exchange.
