Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen spoke with Qatari Minister of Finance H.E. Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari. Secretary Yellen congratulated Minister Al Kuwari on the 50th anniversary of U.S.-Qatar diplomatic relations and reiterated the importance of the U.S.-Qatar bilateral relationship, highlighting President Biden’s recent designation of Qatar as a major non-NATO ally. Secretary Yellen also welcomed the continued partnership between the two countries in combatting terrorist financing in the region. The Secretary and Minister Al Kuwari also discussed opportunities for increased bilateral engagement on economic issues in the coming year, sustainable investment, and Qatar’s financial outlook.

CFTC Orders London-Based Swap Dealer To Pay $3.25 Million For Swap-Data Reporting, Conflicts Of Interest, Mid-Market Mark, And Supervision Failures

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today simultaneously filed and settled charges against ED&F Man Capital Markets, Ltd. (ED&F Man), a London-based provisionally registered swap dealer, for failing to comply with certain swap dealer requirements to report accurate swaps data to a swaps data repository (SDR), failing to disclose a conflict of interest to swaps counterparties, failing to disclose mid-market marks to counterparties, and for related supervision failures.

(TT), a global provider of high-performance professional trading software, infrastructure and data solutions, announced today that the firm has acquired RCM-X, a technology provider of algorithmic execution strategies and quantitative trading products. TT made the announcement at a session with leaders of many of the largest global financial institutions on the first day of the 2022 International Futures Industry Conference in Boca Raton, Florida. Both firms are based in Chicago.

EBA Calls On Financial Institutions To Ensure Compliance With Sanctions Against Russia Following The Invasion Of Ukraine And To Facilitate Access To Basic Payment Accounts For Refugees

The European Banking Authority (EBA) strongly condemns the recent developments that are taking a heavy toll on the Ukrainian state, society, and economy. Following the invasion of Ukraine, the Council of the EU has adopted restrictive measures against Russia and Belarus which require actions from the financial sector. The EBA is working with relevant authorities to ensure proper implementation by all financial institutions of these restrictive measures. As part of this, the EBA will collect and filter queries related to the scope of the restrictive measures as they apply to banks, and channel them to the EU Commission who will answer them. The EBA will continue to closely monitor and assess the situation to inform decisions and actions needed to mitigate short- and medium-term risks and stands ready to act under its competences.
