    May was a month of boosting trading volumes in the Latvian capital market. Total turnover amounted to EUR 105.61 million, equity turnover contributing EUR 30.44 million and debt trading - EUR 75.15 million. The increase of traded equity volumes was largely due to several block trades with Ventspils nafta and Latvijas Unibanka shares.     The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity volume for the month of May 2000 reached a record 166,067,547 shares traded, a 15% increase over May 1999 when 143,923,060 shares changed hands. Year to date equity volume surpassed 1 billion shares traded, a 36% increase over the first five months of 1999 when approximately 766 million shares changed hands.

  • Eurex Launches Option On Givaudan - Equity Options On New SMI Stock

    Eurex, the European derivatives market, is launching equity options on Givaudan on June 19, 2000. Givaudan is a spinoff of the Swiss company Roche and has been traded at SWX since June 8. The company was included in SMI, the SWX blue-chip index, on the same date. Starting on June 19, it will also be possible to trade options and futures on the Neuer Markt blue-chip index, the Nemax 50.
