Hong Kong Exchanges And Clearing Limited GEM Conference In Shanghai

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) will organise a conference aimed at providing potential Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) listing candidates in Mainland China with a greater understanding of the requirements for listing on GEM in Hong Kong. The conference will be held in Shanghai on 30 May 2001.

Electronic trading volume in currency futures at Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) set a new single-day record of 19,171 yesterday, besting the previous record of 18,090 set on October 7, 1998.

Amendments To The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Main Board Listing Rules Chapter 19A

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (The Exchange) has amended the definition of H shares to remove the restriction of subscription and trading of H shares in Hong Kong dollars only. With effect from 21 May 2001, H shares can be subscribed for and traded in currencies of the issuer's choice, including US dollars.

Trading in Paris slipped from a daily average of EUR 5.25 billion in March to EUR 4.98 billion in April. The total for April, which counted only 19 business days, was EUR 94.69 billion.

The Central Bank Of Iceland Auctions Repurchase Agreements For 32.1 Billion

The Central Bank of Iceland held a weekly auction of repurchase agreements on May 15 of the maturity of 14 days. The auction was a fixed rate one at 10.9 per cent p.a. Offers were made for a total amount of 32.1 billion krónur resulting in repurchase contracts for that amount.

Orange replaces Liberty Surf in Next 150 as of 18 May 2001 Following the official result of the takeover bid by Tiscali SpA for the French company Liberty Surf, Liberty Surf will be deleted from the Next 150 index with effect from Friday 18 May 2001, in accordance with rule 6.3.3 of the index ground rules.
