HKFE Prepared To Revise Margins For PCCW Futures Contract

Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited (HKFE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), is prepared to revise the margin rate for PCCW Futures Contract if shareholders approve the company's proposal to consolidate every five shares of HK$0.05 each with effect from 8 January 2003.

In December 2002, 48,6 thousand trades were executed on FORTS (Futures &Options on RTS). Trading volume reached 2.07 contracts or 9,5 billion rubles in underlying value. The month of November showed 2.47 million contracts and 10.2 billion rubles in underlying value. Total open interest as of December 31, 2002, stood at 292 thousand contracts or 1 191 million rubles in underlying value, compared to 311 thousand contracts and 1 251 million rubles at the end of November.

Euronext.liffe, the derivatives business of Euronext, traded a record 697 million futures and options contracts in 2002, up 13% on 2001, representing an underlying value of €183 trillion, up 15% on 2001. The total number of contracts traded and value traded makes Euronext.liffe the world's second largest derivatives exchange.

The total number of transactions in 2002 amounting to 137,949,264 was up 12.3% compared to 2001. The average number of daily transactions in cash products was also up 11.4 % in 2002, compared to 2001, reaching 541,518.

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) today announced the highest yearly volume total ever recorded in exchange history, trading 343,882,529 contracts for 2002. Total volume was up 32.1% from last year. Volume in December was 23,070,424, up 10.7% from December 2001.

BrokerTec Futures Exchange Trades 2.1 Million Contracts In 2002 - Completes First Full Year Of Trading

BrokerTec Futures Exchange (BTEX), the nation's only fully-electronic fixed income futures exchange, announced today that it traded a total of 2,109,670 contracts in 2002, its first full year of operation. Following a monthly volume record of 430,888 contracts traded during November, the exchange had an average daily volume of 10,315 contracts in December 2002, a 169 percent increase over December 2001(3,839 contracts traded).
