Ladies and Gentlemen, It is a great pleasure for me to be here today and I very much welcome the opportunity to talk to you about the regulatory system in Brussels and how this is linked to the key objective of ensuring a competitive economy. I can understand why for some amongst you the natural instinct is to receive Brussels initiatives with a degree of hesitation – or downright scepticism. For that reason, I think it might be helpful if I set things in context.

RTS Realtime Systems Group (RTS), a leading independent software vendor (ISV), announced today that it now offers full connectivity to Instinet Chi-X(R) Limited, the first order driven, pan-European equity alternative trading system (ATS), which will be known as a Multilateral Trading Facility (MTF) under MiFID. The direct electronic access broadens the RTS reach into the European equities markets and further builds on the growing distribution of Chi-X.

MENA Financial Group announced today that it has been granted a licence by the Dubai Financial Service Authority (DFSA) to operate as an authorised firm in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Egypt Is To Become The First Arab And First African Country To Sign The OECD Investment Declaration

On 11 July 2007, Egypt became the first Arab and first African country signing the OECD Investment Declaration. This marks a new stage in Egypt's drive to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI). A series of policy reforms have helped to underpin a fifteen-fold increase in Egypt's FDI between 2001 and 2006. FDI reached a record USD 9 billion in the first three quarters of its 2007 fiscal year compared with USD 6.1 billion for the whole of 2006.

Mary Schapiro Announces Name Update: Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Replaces Securities Industry Regulatory Authority

In an email to firms on July 12, 2007, NASD Chairman and CEO Mary Schapiro announced the decision not to use the name "Securities Industry Regulatory Authority" for the new regulatory organization formed from the consolidation of NASD and the New York Stock Exchange Member Regulation. The organization will instead be known as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, or FINRA.
