Strong Month-End Trading Yields Record Volume At The Minneapolis Grain Exchange

Deemed by some as the report of the century, the USDA Planting Intentions report released Friday, March 30 spurred an active day of trading at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX or Exchange). Hard red spring wheat futures volume on March 30 was 14,850 contracts, which is the 13th highest daily trading volume in the history of the MGEX. Volume for the month also topped the charts with the highest total volume for March at 115,483 contracts traded.

BOX Rolls Out 97 New Classes

On Monday April 2, 2007, BOX continued its expansion program by rolling out 97 new classes, to reach a total of 703 classes currently traded on the Exchange. In addition, during coming weeks, BOX will add 200 additional classes for trading (subject to regulatory approval).

OneChicago, LLC today reported that 355,409 security futures contracts traded at the Exchange in March. Average daily volume (ADV) in March 2007 was 16,155 contracts.

BOX’s Average Improvement Stays Strong After Penny Pilot Program, Launches 20 New Classes

In the month of March, price improvement versus the prevailing NBBO for contracts submitted via the Boston Options Exchange’s (“BOX”) price improvement auction (‘PIP’*) averaged $2.83 per contract, a strong level considering March was the first month with full impact from the Penny Pilot Program. An average of 59,123 contracts per day received price improvement during the month. This represented savings to investors of $3.7 million.

CBOE Volume Of 83 Million Contracts Is All-Time Record - Average Daily Volume Of 3.77 Million Is Up 58% New Records Set Across The Board

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced today that March was the busiest month ever at CBOE, with total volume of 83 million contracts, an increase of 51% over March 2006's volume of 55.0 million contracts. This month's volume shatters the previous record, established last May, of 70.5 million contracts. Average daily volume for the month was a record-breaking 3.8 million contracts, an increase of 58% over March 2006.

Eurex, the international derivatives exchange, reported on Monday that a total of 199 million contracts were traded in March 2007. This is the strongest trading month ever on Eurex, an increase of approximately 34 percent compared with March 2006; the previous record trading month was May 2006 (174 million contracts). In March €253.7 billion were turned over on Xetra and on the floor of Börse Frankfurt – a rise of 57 percent year-on-year (March 2006: €161,1 billion). Thereof €239 billion were traded on Xetra gaining 61 percent year-on-year (March 2006: €148 billion) and €14.6 billion on the floor.
