NYSE Euronext (NYX) today announced the launch of Van Eck’s Market Vectors-Gulf States Index ETF (MES) on NYSE Arca. ETFs and ETNs listed on NYSE Arca - an industry leader in ETF and ETN listings and trading - represent 55% of ETF and ETN assets under management in the U.S., nearly $590 billion , the most of any exchange.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced today its case against Optiver Holding BV, two of its subsidiaries, and three employees, charging them with manipulation and attempted manipulation of New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) Light Sweet Crude Oil, New York Harbor Heating Oil, and New York Harbor Gasoline futures contracts during March 2007.

July 2008 Monthly Preliminary Performance Report Dow Jones-AIG Commodity Indexes

The Dow Jones-AIG Commodity Index was down -11.54% for the month of July. The Dow Jones-AIG Lean Hogs Sub-Index had the only positive monthly gain with a return of 7.25%. Silver and Zinc had the narrowest downside MTD performances of -0.30% and -0.48%, respectively. The three most significant downside performing single commodity indexes were Natural Gas, Corn, and Unleaded Gas, which were down -26.58%, -22.53%, and -12.91% respectively, in July.

FINRA To Launch Pilot Program To Evaluate All-Public Arbitration Panels

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) will launch a two-year pilot program later this fall that will allow some investors making arbitration claims to choose a panel made up of three public arbitrators instead of two public arbitrators and one non-public arbitrator, as is currently the norm.
