Pension funds across the country are now taking appropriate steps to clean up abuses. The recent actions with respect to Aldus Equity by pension funds in New York, Connecticut, New Mexico, and Texas are the latest examples. But we should not forget that the real goal must be systemic reform so we can avoid continually closing the barn door after the horse has bolted the stable.

BM&FBOVESPA Traded A Total Of 4,302,392 Contracts Via The DMA In April

In April, BM&FBOVESPA traded a total of 4,302,392 contracts via the DMA (Direct Market Access) model, with 426,107 trades via the GTS system. With this result, the negotiated contract number presented in April a growth of 31% over to the registered monthly average in the first quarter of 2009 that was of 3,280,365. The number of trades, in turn, grew 52%, also in comparison with the monthly average first quarter, which reached 278,962.
National Stock Exchange Releases April 2009 ETF/ETN Data Report

National Stock Exchange, Inc. (NSX®) announced that assets in U.S. listed Exchange-Traded Funds (ETF) and Exchange-Traded Notes (ETN) totaled approximately $540.2 billion at April 2009 month-end, an increase of 10% over March 2009 month-end when assets totaled approximately $489.2 billion. At the end of April 2009, the number of listed products totaled 844, compared to 719 listed products one year ago.
