Tokyo Stock Exchange Wins Accolade At Annual Global ETF Awards For Seventh Consecutive Year

On April 14, 2011, Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) was again recognised as the Exchange in the Asia-Pacific region with the largest number of primary listed ETF products at the Annual Global ETF Awards. This is the seventh consecutive time that TSE has won this award which is given by U.S. ETF research firm "Exchangetradedfunds.com" in recognition of activity in and contribution to the ETF market.

Thai Main Stock Market Index Rises 1.43% In Q1/11 And 6.03% IUn 2/11

The Thai capital market continued to rise in Q1/2011, with The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index closing at 1,047.48 points at the end of Q1/11, up 1.43% from end-2010 and 6.03% higher than from end-February. Trading growth in Thailand was still favorable especially when compared to some other exchanges which have closed lower at the end of last year. Foreign investors posted a net buy of THB19.54 billion (approx. USD653.19 million) in March, with apparent weight given to the energy sector when oil prices were rising and to banking stocks due to higher interest rates.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on April 15, 2011, obtained a federal court order imposing more than $12 million in restitution and civil monetary penalties on defendants Brian Kim and his company, Liquid Capital Management, LLC (LCM), for fraud in connection with the operation of a commodity pool.

Japan's Financial Services Agency Vice Commissioner For International Affairs Appointed Chairman Of IOSCO's Technical Committee

International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) held its Annual Conference during April 17-21, 2011, in Cape Town, South Africa, and Masamichi Kono, Vice Commissioner for International Affairs of the Financial Services Agency of Japan (FSA), assumed the role of Chairman of the Technical Committee of IOSCO succeeding Mr. Hans Hoogervorst, Chairman of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets, who stepped down from the Technical Committee chairmanship at the close of the conference. Mr. Kono's term will run until the next Annual Conference planned in May 2012 in Beijing. Mr. Fernando Restoy, Vice-Chairman of Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores of Spain, has replaced Mr. Kono as Vice-Chairman of the Technical Committee.
