The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged former bank executives with misleading investors about mounting loan losses at San Francisco-based United Commercial Bank during the height of the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009.

FISD Presents Lifetime Achievement Award To Joseph Kasputys - Founder & Former Chairman Of IHS Global Insight Receives Award At World Financial Information Conference In San Francisco

The Financial Information Services Division (FISD) of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) yesterday announced that Dr. Joseph Kasputys, founder and former chairman, president and ceo of global information company IHS Global Insight, is the recipient of the fourth Market Data Lifetime Achievement Award. The honor recognizes leaders who have advanced the financial information industry over the past 25 years. FISD members voted on the award in September, and the selection of Kasputys was announced today during the biennial World Financial Information Conference (WFIC) in San Francisco.

National Institute Of Economic And Social Research Estimates Of U.K. Monthly GDP

The National Institute of Economic and Social Research monthly estimates of GDP suggest that output grew by 0.5 per cent in the three months ending in September after growth of 0.4 per cent in the three months ending in August. UK economic growth over the past year has been anaemic; the level of output is only 0.5 per cent higher than this time last year. The level of GDP is still 4 per cent below its pre-recession peak, suggesting that this recovery will be the weakest of any since the end of the First World War.

Federal Reserve Board Seeks Comment On Proposal To Implement "Volcker Rule" Requirements Of The Dodd-Frank Act

The Federal Reserve Board on Tuesday requested public comment on a proposed regulation implementing the so-called "Volcker Rule" requirements of section 619 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Section 619 generally contains two prohibitions. First, it prohibits insured depository institutions, bank holding companies, and their subsidiaries or affiliates (banking entities) from engaging in short-term proprietary trading of any security, derivative, and certain other financial instruments for a banking entity's own account, subject to certain exemptions. Second, it prohibits owning, sponsoring, or having certain relationships with, a hedge fund or private equity fund, subject to certain exemptions.
