SEC Names Marc Wyatt As Acting Director Of The Office Of Compliance Inspections And Examinations

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that Marc Wyatt will serve as Acting Director of the agency’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE). He succeeds Andrew Bowden, who announced that he will be leaving the SEC to rejoin the private sector at the end of April.

Canadian Securities Regulators’ Review Finds Room For Improvement In Mining Issuers’ Investor Presentations

Members of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) today released CSA Staff Notice 43-309 Review of Website Investor Presentations by Mining Issuers, which summarizes the findings of staff of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) and the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) (collectively, the Principal Mining Jurisdictions) and outlines the CSA’s expectations for website disclosure by mining issuers.

Member Of Organized Cybercrime Ring Sentenced To 150 Months In Prison For Selling Stolen And Counterfeit Credit Cards

A member of the identity theft and credit card fraud ring known as “Carder.su” was sentenced today to 150 months in federal prison for selling stolen and counterfeit credit cards over the Internet. He was further ordered to pay $50.8 million in restitution.

Benjamin M. Lawsky, Superintendent of Financial Services, announced that the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) released a report today finding significant potential cyber security vulnerabilities with banks' third-party vendors. Banks rely on third-party vendors for a broad-range of services – such as law firms that provide them with legal advice or even companies contracted to run their HVAC systems. Those third-party firms often have access to a financial institution’s information technology systems, providing a potential point of entry for hackers.

BOX Options Exchange Price Improvement Activity For March

In the month of March, price improved contracts on BOX Options Exchange (“BOX”) averaged 218,520 per day. Price improvement versus the prevailing NBBO for contracts submitted via BOX’s price improvement auction, PIP, averaged $571,858 per day, while total savings to investors this month was $12.6M. With this, BOX has saved investors over $614M since its inception in 2004. Overall average daily trading volume on BOX in the month of March was 350,954 contracts.
