    CFTC Commissioner Sharon Y. Bowen today released the following statement after the Senate confirmation vote of J. Christopher Giancarlo as Chairman:

      “I congratulate my colleague Chris Giancarlo on his Senate confirmation to be the Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.  The agenda of the CFTC and its hardworking staff will be in good hands with Chris as its leader. I am confident he will lead the agency forward to tackle not only the challenges presented by the 2008 financial crisis but also the challenges of the 21st century marketplace.  The CFTC has a tremendous challenge in fulfilling its mandate, because the markets we oversee today are vastly different than the agency’s traditional role.  Today, the CFTC oversees markets valued in the hundreds of trillions of dollars and transactions that happen faster than the blink of an eye.  In the time that I am a commissioner at the CFTC, I look forward to working with Chairman Giancarlo to completing the outstanding agenda items currently before the commission. I am proud to have worked with Chris over the years, and I congratulate him on his confirmation as Chairman.”

  • ASX Monthly Activity Report - July 2017

    The value of ASX-listed stocks, as measured by the All Ordinaries Index, rose 0.2% in July 2017. This was in contrast to most major markets, including Hong Kong up 6.1%, Singapore up 3.2%, the US up 1.9% and the UK up 0.8%. Japan was down 0.5% and Germany was down 1.7%.

      “I congratulate Russ Behnam and Brian Quintenz on their U.S. Senate confirmations to be Commissioners at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.  We are fortunate that each brings valuable experience and knowledge of the futures, options and swaps market and the breadth of issues challenging our agency in the 21st century.  Those challenges, such as automated trading, position limits, governance, international harmonization, improving swaps data and increasing the agency’s budget, will be issues the newly constituted commission must address and soon.  I thank Russ and Brian for their willingness to serve our nation.  I look forward to working with them and offer my help and guidance as they assume their new roles.”
