  • FSB: Key Standards For Sound Financial Systems

    The Key Attributes of Effective Resolution Regimes for Financial Institutions (Key Attributes) has been added by the FSB to its list of Key Standards for Sound Financial Systems. The Key Attributes is the international standard for resolution regimes, and forms part of the set of policy measures to address systemically important financial institutions that was endorsed by the G20 in November 2011. The inclusion now of the Key Attributes in the list of FSB Key Standards for Sound Financial Systems follows the approval of a methodology in October 2016 for assessing jurisdictions’ compliance of their bank resolution framework with the Key Attributes. In July 2017, the Key Attributes was also included in the list of standards for which assessments are carried out by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank of their member countries under the Standards and Codes Initiative.

  • HKEX: Scrip Dividend Scheme In Relation To The Interim Dividend For The Year Ending 31 December 2017 Calculation Of Market Value

    On 9 August 2017, the Board declared the Interim Dividend to the Shareholders, which will be payable in cash with a scrip alternative to the Shareholders whose names appeared on HKEX’s register of members on the Record Date.  Pursuant to the Scrip Dividend Scheme and subject to the terms set out in the Circular, the eligible Shareholders have the right to elect to receive the Interim Dividend in New Shares instead of in cash, or partly in New Shares and partly in cash. 

  • PEGAS Starts New Spot Market Index And Harmonises Use Of Existing Futures Indices

    PEGAS, the pan-European gas trading platform operated by Powernext, announces the introduction of the European Gas Spot Market Index (EGSI)on 5 September responding to the market participants’ needs. The index will cover all liquid gas spot markets operated by PEGAS. Along with the launch of EGSI, PEGAS will also harmonise the use of existing indices for the futures market.

    The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has noticed an increase in the use of initial coin offerings (ICOs) to raise funds in Hong Kong and elsewhere. This statement serves to explain that, depending on the facts and circumstances of an ICO, digital tokens that are offered or sold may be “securities” as defined in the Securities and Futures Ordinance (SFO), and subject to the securities laws of Hong Kong.
