The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has appointed Mario Nava, chair of the Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa (CONSOB) of Italy, to serve as chair of its Committee of Economic and Markets’ Analysis (CEMA).

HKEX Chief Executive Charles Li has written a blog on biotech listings, which are now welcome in the Hong Kong capital market. Li outlines why it’s important to give biotech firms access to funding while at the same time striking a balance between market access and investor protection. Li says pre-revenue biotech listings have some unique inherent risks. While regulators and third-party experts are trying to improve the quality of issuers’ disclosure, the sector is ultimately a “buyer beware” market. Investors should proceed with caution, Li says, adding that investors should only invest in the sector if they have a solid understanding of the industry.
