At the end of the settlement date of March 15, 2023, short interest in 3,418 Nasdaq Global Market^SM securities totaled 10,373,177,802 shares compared with 10,071,117,158 shares in 3,441 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of February 28, 2023. The mid-March short interest represents 2.72 days compared with 2.78 days for the prior reporting period.

MIAX Exchange Group - Options And Equities Markets - Postponed Launch Of New miaxglobal.Com Website

The previously announced launch of the miaxglobal.com website in the March 20, 2023 alert has been postponed. The MIAX Options, MIAX Pearl Options, MIAX Emerald Options and MIAX Pearl Equities Exchanges will announce the new launch date in a future alert.

ISDA Briefing Paper On Post-trade Risk Reduction

On March 22, 2023, ISDA published a briefing paper on post-trade risk reduction (PTRR), which explains how these services would significantly strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of Europe’s derivatives market if fully deployed. The paper highlights how the benefits of PTRR services are restricted by the clearing obligation under the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) and outlines the conditions under which non-price forming output transactions that result from PTRR exercises should benefit from a derogation from the EMIR clearing obligation. These conditions would ensure the derogation could not be used to evade clearing. ISDA also recommends that policymakers use the current EMIR proposal to introduce such a derogation, which would be in line with the recommendations made by the European Securities and Markets Authority in 2020.

Federal Reserve Board Releases Annual Audited Financial Statements

The Federal Reserve Board on Friday released the 2022 combined annual audited financial statements for the Reserve Banks. An independent public accounting firm engaged by the Board issued unqualified opinions, asserting that its audit found the financial statements for the Board and the Reserve Banks to be free of material misstatements in accordance with the applicable auditing standards. The Board released preliminary income and expense data earlier this year.

ETFGI Reports Smart Beta Equity ETFs Listed Globally Gathered US$2.41 Billion In Net Inflows During February 2023

ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs ecosystem, reported today that Smart Beta equity ETFs listed globally gathered net inflows of US$2.41 billion during February, bringing year to date net inflows to US$8.34 billion, which is lower than the US$36.82 billion gathered at this point last year. During February 2023, Smart Beta Equity ETFs assets have increased by 0.8% from US$1.26 trillion at the end of January 2023, to US$1.28 trillion, with a 5-year CAGR of 16.0%, according to ETFGI’s February 2023 ETF and ETP Smart Beta industry landscape insights report, the monthly report which is part of an annual paid-for research subscription service.  (All dollar vales in USD unless otherwise noted.) 

Bank Of England - Asset Purchase Facility: Gilt Sales – Market Notice 24 March 2023

Market notice

This Market Notice sets out the schedule for sales in Q2 2023 of gilts held in the Asset Purchase Facility for monetary policy purposes. The Bank intends to sell a total of £3.08bn in each of the short, medium and long maturity sectors during Q2, spread across four auctions in each sector. Auctions will commence on 3 April for short maturity gilts, 17 April for medium maturity gilts and 4 May for long maturity gilts.
