In a prosecution brought by the FCA, Peter Currie (59) was convicted by unanimous verdicts of 2 counts of fraud and 1 of money laundering and Andrew Currie (57) was convicted of 1 count of fraud and 1 of money laundering at Southwark Crown Court today following a 5-week trial. Andrew Currie was acquitted of 1 count of fraud.
ISDA Briefing On Risks And Costs Of Active Accounts

On May 17, ISDA published its views on the European Commission’s proposal to mandate EU clearing participants to clear in Europe. ISDA believes if this requirement is not adequately calibrated, it will create costs and other competitive disadvantages that non-EU competitors will not have to bear, highlighting the trade-off between mandating clearing in Europe and preserving the competitiveness of EU clearing participants. ISDA’s briefing sets out the risks and costs of requiring EU firms to hold an account at EU central counterparties (CCPs) and mandating them to clear a proportion of their business at EU CCPs.

BaFin warns consumers about the website afexeu.com. The company AfexEU, which is domiciled in Dublin, is conducting banking business and providing financial services via this website without the required authorisation. The company offers its customers the opportunity to trade in financial instruments. On the website, it claims that AfexEU holds a licence from BaFin. This is not true. However, a company with a similar name, AFEX Markets Europe Limited, which is also domiciled in Dublin, does hold authorisation from BaFin. This is therefore a case of identity fraud.
