Oslo Børs draws attention to the new rules on insider trading which went into effect on 1 July 2001. The new rules substantially tighten the prohibition of insider trading. Inside information need no longer be likely to have a significant effect on prices for the prohibition to apply. Moreover, such information has been redefined from information of "a precise and confidential" nature to information "which is not publicly available or generally known in the market".

The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) traded an average daily nominal value of £371 billion (€608 billion) in June and totalled £45 trillion (€73 trillion) for the first half of 2001, maintaining its position as the world's largest electronic exchange by value traded.

Equity trading through Euronext central orderbooks, including both domestic and foreign companies, averaged EUR 6.94 billion in July, a figure practically unchanged from the previous month. The total amount for the first six months of the year came to EUR 862.9 billion, showing a rise of 3.7% from the same period of 2000.

In June, the BEL20 increased by 3.55% and ended the month at 2,885.03 points. The highest level was reached the 29th June with 2,910.71 points. The Brussels All Shares Price Index and Return Index closed the month with a rise of 1.63% and 2.35% respectively. Prices of some individual stocks took off: Ter Beke, Deficom Group and VMS Keytrade climbed by 22.66%, 18.50% and 17.51%.
