FSA Outlines Options On Analysts' Investment Research

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) today publishes a discussion paper on whether changes should be made to the FSA's regulatory approach to investment research in the UK. The options put forward for discussion range from no change to the current requirements, to new rules, or even a completely new approach under which some research reports would be clearly labelled as advice, promotion or marketing material.
ASX Launches Property Trust Index Futures

ASX announced the commencement of trading in index futures contracts over the S&P™/ASX200™ Property Trust sector (GICS) index (ASX code: XPJ). Trading will commence at 9:50am on Thursday 1 August 2002.

SEC: Paul Munter Named Academic Accounting Fellow, Office Of The Chief Accountant

The Securities and Exchange Commission's Office of the Chief Accountant today announced the selection of Paul Munter as academic accounting fellow for a one-year term beginning August 2002. For the last 14 years, Munter has been professor and chairman of the Department of Accounting at the University of Miami. He is a certified public accountant. Munter also has a doctorate in accounting from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Fresno State Univ
SEC: David B. Smith Appointed Academic Accounting Fellow, Division of Corporation Finance

The Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Corporation Finance today announced the selection of David B. Smith as the academic accounting fellow for a one-year term beginning August 2002. Currently, Smith is the Union Pacific Corporation/Charles B. Handy Professor of Accounting at Iowa State University (ISU). He served as the ISU Department of Accounting Chairman from 1998 to 2001. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today proposed amending Part 15 of its rules, 17 C.F.R. Part 15, to establish a reporting level of 25,000 for TRAKRS futures contracts to be traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. A thirty day comment period is provided.
Borsa Italiana: Committee For Corporate Governance Approve Revisions To The Code Of Conduct

Standard & Poor's Announces Changes In S&P Canadian Telecommunication Services Sector Index

Standard & Poor's will make the following change in the S&P/TSX Canadian Telecommunication Services Sector Index: Effective after the close of trading on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, the following change will take place in the S&P/TSX Canadian Telecommunication Services Sector Index. The weight of Telus Corporation (TSX: T) will increase by approximately 4.29% in the S&P/TSX Canadian Telecommunication Services Sector Index.
