Eurex Turns Over Some 70 Million Contracts In August - 682 Million Contracts Traded In 2003 - 32 Percent Higher Year On Year - Further Increases In Volume In French And Dutch Equity Options

Eurex, the international derivatives market, traded and cleared 69.9 million contracts in August. During the first eight months of the year 2003, market participants connected to Eurex worldwide from over 700 locations turned over a total of some 682 million contracts, roughly one-third higher or 168 million contracts more than the number traded during the same period of the previous year.

Deutsche Börse: 242 Billion Euros In Turnover On German Stock Exchanges In August

The aggregate turnover statistics show that a total volume of 242.1 billion euros was traded on the German stock exchanges in August 2003 - about 16 percent less than the month before (July 2003: 289 billion euros). The total comprises some 189 billion euros in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds as well as 53.1 billion euros in fixed-income securities.

UK's Financial Services Authority Proposes New Financial Rules For Life Insurers

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has today proposed new rules to determine how much capital should be held by life insurers. These rules will link the capital requirements for with-profits insurers more directly to how they smooth the payments they make to their policyholders. Thus the more smoothing takes place the more capital with-profits life insurers will have to hold. This will reduce the pressure on with-profits funds to sell equities
