SEC Proposes Rules To Increase Proxy Access by Shareholders

The Securities and Exchange Commission today approved rule proposals that would require companies to include in their proxy materials the names of nominees for director that are submitted by certain shareholders, as well as disclosure relating to those nominees. SEC Proposes Rules Concerning Broker-Dealer And Affiliate Supervision On A Consolidated Basis

The Commission today voted to propose rule amendments and new rules under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 that would establish two separate voluntary regulatory frameworks for the Commission to supervise broker-dealers and their affiliates on a consolidated basis.

The number of trades on SETS™, the London Stock Exchange's electronic order book, increased to 3.06 million in September 2003, a 30 per cent increase on the 2.34 million trades in September 2002. The value traded on SETS during the month was £69.4 billion, up from £58.1 billion in September 2002. There were 22 business days in September 2003 compared with 21 in September 2002.

The Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange (MICEX) has announced the overall results of its work in the first 9 months of 2003. In 1.01.2003 - 30.09.2003, the total trading volume in all of the MICEX markets reached 196,8 bln U.S. dollars, 2,4 times more than in the same period of 2002.

Financial Services Authority Announces Merger Of UK Listing Authority And Markets And Exchanges Division

John Tiner, FSA Chief Executive, today announced that the UK Listing Authority will merge with the Markets and Exchanges Division of the Financial Services Authority. Gay Huey Evans, who is currently the Director of Markets and Exchanges, will take on responsibility for managing the new 'Markets Division' within the current Deposit Takers and Markets Directorate.
