Standard & Poor’s Announces Changes In The S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index

Standard & Poor’s will make the following changes in the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index after the close of trading on Friday, May 28, 2004: TIR Systems Ltd. (TSXVN:TIY) will be removed from the index. The company will graduate to trade on the TSX under the ticker symbol “TIR” at the open on Monday, May 31, 2004. Standard & Poor’s will make the following changes in the S&P Japan SmallCap 250 and S&P Japan 500 Indices effective after the close of trading, Friday June 4th 2004: Hitachi Construction Machinery Co Ltd (Japan, SEDOL: 6429405, GICS: Industrials, GICS Code: 20106010) a member of the S&P Japan SmallCap 250 and S&P Japan 500 indices, shares will increase by 20,032,000 to 195,572,038 due to the public offering and the exercise of stock acquisition rights.

SPI Technologies is being acquired by TH Lee Putnam Ventures LP, a US-based private equity firm, and the acquisition is expected to be completed on June 2, 2004.

Today OMHEX, Northern Europe’s largest securities market operator, and the Lithuanian State Property Fund (SPF) closed the transaction, whereby OMHEX purchased 44.3 percent of the shares of the National Stock Exchange of Lithuania (NSEL) and 32 percent of the shares of the Central Securities Depository of Lithuania (CSDL).
