Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Hits A Historical High

Total trading volume traded on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives (Bursa Derivatives) hit a historical high of 2,019,398 contracts for the year up to September 2004, surpassing the annual trading volume recorded in previous years. It also surpassed the annual volume for the year 2003 of 2,000,263 contracts. Commodity futures contributed 1,050,514 contracts (52%), Equity futures, 843,941 contracts (42%) and financial futures, 124,943 contracts (6%) towards the total trading in Bursa Derivatives.

The American Stock Exchange (Amex) announced today that it has begun publishing the Amex Gold Miners Index (Ticker Symbol: GDM); a new modified market capitalization weighted index comprised of publicly traded companies involved primarily in the mining for gold and silver.
