SEC To Conduct First-Ever Seniors Summit July 17 To Protect Older Americans From Investment Fraud - New NASD Investor Education Foundation Fraud Study To Be Released

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox today announced the date and agenda for the SEC's first-ever Seniors Summit to examine how regulators and others can better coordinate efforts to protect older Americans from investment fraud and abusive sales practices. The July 17 summit will also include the unveiling of a study funded by the NASD Investor Education Foundation that explores why the elderly are victimized by fraud crimes.

NYSE Regulation, Inc. Fines Van der Moolen Specialists USA, LLC $3.5 Million For Stock Loan Violations

NYSE Regulation, Inc. announced today that it has censured and fined Van der Moolen Specialists USA, LLC (“VDM”), a member firm, $3.5 million for the misconduct of its stock loan department, which has since been closed, and for related supervisory deficiencies and books and records violations. During the relevant period, the stock loan department engaged in numerous transactions at away-from-market rebate rates, and made payments to finders who performed no legitimate business function.

NYSE Member Firms Report First-Quarter 2006 Results

New York Stock Exchange member firms that conduct business with the public reported first-quarter 2006 after-tax profits of $3.08 billion and revenues of $77.56 billion, compared to $1.70 billion in after-tax profits on revenues of $49.22 billion in the first quarter of 2005.
