NASDAQ Announces End-of-Month Open Short Interest Positions In NASDAQ Stocks As Of Settlement Date August 29, 2008

At the end of the settlement date of August 29, 2008, short interest in 2,624 NASDAQ Global Market(sm) securities totaled 9,795,107,997 shares compared with 9,958,393,238 shares in 2,620 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of August 15, 2008. The end-of-August short interest represents 5.39 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.52 days for the prior reporting period.

CalPERS Recovers $30 Million From Former UnitedHealth Group CEO

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) announced today that it has entered into a proposed settlement of its class action lawsuit with the former Chief Executive Officer of UnitedHealth Group (UNH) William McGuire. McGuire has agreed to pay $30 million to UNH shareowners and to cancel options to purchase 3.675 million shares of stock to settle CalPERS’ claims.

Michael Dicke Named Associate Regional Director For Enforcement In SEC's San Francisco Regional Office

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced the promotion of Michael Dicke to Associate Regional Director for Enforcement in the agency's San Francisco Regional Office. Mr. Dicke will lead a large staff of attorneys, accountants and other professionals who investigate and litigate federal securities law violations in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska.

ICE Futures U.S.(TM), a leading regulated U.S. futures exchange for global agricultural, equity index and currency markets, today announced that its mini Russell 2000(R) Index futures contract set a second consecutive day of record volume and open interest on Tuesday, September 9. Total daily volume of 36,230 contracts in the mini Russell 2000 futures exceeded by 64% the record established on Monday of 22,129 contracts.
