European Parliament Adds Bite To EU Financial Watchdog Rules

EU authorities are to get tough new powers to settle disputes among national financial supervisors and to ban risky financial products and activities, in a revamp of EU financial supervision plans agreed on Thursday. If national supervisors fail to act, then the authorities may also impose decisions directly on financial institutions, such as banks, so as to remedy breaches of EU law.

August 2009, though it represented a marked increase over last month's trading. Average daily volume for this period was 4.40 million contracts. Trading turnover totaled CNY 5.156 trillion, an increase of 8.93% over August 2009.

SEC Adopts Temporary Rule Requiring Municipal Advisors To Register With Agency

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that it has adopted a temporary rule requiring municipal advisors to register with the SEC by October 1, a deadline established by the newly-enacted Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

National Stock Exchange Releases August 2010 ETF/ETN Data Report

National Stock Exchange, Inc. (NSX®) announced that assets in U.S. listed Exchange-Traded Funds (ETF) and Exchange-Traded Notes (ETN) totaled approximately $814.8 billion at August 2010 month-end, an increase of approximately 21% over August 2009 month-end when assets totaled $672.3 billion. At the end of August 2010, the number of listed products reached 1046, with 437 ETFs/ETNs posting > $100 million in Assets Under Management (AUM).

SEC Charges New Jersey Investment Adviser In Multi-Million Dollar Offering Fraud

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged a Branchburg, N.J.-based investment adviser and three of her firms with operating a multi-million dollar offering fraud involving the sale of phony promissory notes to investors, many of whom are retired or unsophisticated in investments.
