  • GFMA Comments On Basel Committee’s Capital Surcharge Proposal

    The Global Financial Markets Association (GFMA) today announced it has submitted comments to the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (Basel Committee) in response to the Consultative Document issued July 19, “Global systemically important banks:  Assessment methodology and the additional loss absorbency requirement,” which would impose a capital surcharge on global systemically important banks (G-SIBs). While GFMA strongly supports the goal of the Basel Committee to promote financial stability, GFMA has serious concerns with the proposed surcharge and believes the proposal should be fundamentally revised and re-proposed to address these concerns.  

  • ICE NYH RBOB Gasoline Futures Set Daily Volume Record

    IntercontinentalExchange (NYSE: ICE), a leading operator of global regulated futures exchanges, clearing houses and over-the-counter (OTC) markets, reported record daily volume in the ICE NYH RBOB Gasoline Futures Contract of 13,877 contracts on 25 August 2011.  The new record surpassed the previous daily record of 8,879 contracts set on 13 June 2011.

    The International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Inc. (ISDA) today announced that its EMEA Credit Derivatives Determinations Committee resolved that a Restructuring Credit Event occurred in respect of Irish Life & Permanent plc.

    • BULGARIA SE:  The National Corporate Governance Commission in Bulgaria has approved the methodologyfor calculating the index, which will include publicly traded companies strictly applying corporate governance principles. The index will be named CGIX(Corporate Governance IndeX) and initially the technical calculation and the information dissemination will beperformed by the Bulgarian Stock Exchange. The index will include seven companies and will be market capitalization weighted, adjusted by the free-float. Its base value is 100 points and the initial calculation date is
    • EGX:  The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) together with the Information Technology Industry Development Association (ITIDA) seek to attract more technology companies to get listed on NILEX. In this respect, Mr. Mohamed Abdel Salam, EGX Chairman, asserted that EGX looks forward to put up "NILEX" as the first Arab stock market for small and medium enterprises that aims at enhancing the IT industry.     • PALESTINE SE:  The Palestine Exchange (PEX) concluded its second road show to London on 23-24 June 2011. Mr. Ahmad Aweidah, Chief Executive Officer of PEX headed the Palestinian delegation of four leading listed companies; Palestine Telecommunications (PALTEL), PADICO Holding, Bank of Palestine and Wataniya Palestine Mobile, in addition to Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, Economic Advisor of President Mahmoud Abbas and Chairman of the Palestinian Investment Fund, CEO of the Palestine Capital Markets Authority, and Rasmala Palestine Equity Fund.
