The 2025-26 Examination Priorities include reviews focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, financial institution sales practices and the exempt market – among other initiatives.

Ontario Securities Commission: Kevin Carmichael Sentenced To Four Years For Defrauding Strike Holdings Investors

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) announces that Mr. Kevin Carmichael has been sentenced to four years in jail for defrauding investors in Strike Holdings Inc., as well as making misleading statements to investors and trading securities without registration. In addition to the jail term, Mr. Carmichael was also ordered to pay restitution to harmed investors totaling $22.7 million.

EBA Publishes No Action Letter On The Interplay Between Payment Services Directive (PSD2/3) And Markets In Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA)

The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today a No Action letter advising the EU Commission, EU Council and EU Parliament to ensure that, in the long term, EU law needs to avoid a dual authorisation under two pieces of EU law for the activity of transacting electronic money tokens (EMTs). While the existing Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) still applies, the letter advises national competent authorities (NCAs) to enforce authorisation of PSD2 for a specified subset only of crypto asset service providers (CASPs) that transact EMTs, to do so only after a transition period that ends on 2 March 2026, and then to deprioritise specified PSD2 provisions.

U.S. Treasury Department Disrupts Sham Overseas Charity Networks Funding Hamas And The PFLP

Today, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is sanctioning five individuals and five sham charities located abroad that are prominent financial supporters of Hamas’s Military Wing and its terrorist activities. The individuals and entities sanctioned today are responsible for funding Hamas’s Military Wing under the pretense of conducting humanitarian work, both internationally and in Gaza. Treasury is also targeting a separate fraudulent charity linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
