  • Tokyo Stock Exchange ETF/ETN Monthly Report For April 2013

    Monthly trading value surged past previous market record with over 50% monthly gain!

    • The ETF/ETN market remained robust in April with monthly trading value surging past the record since market launch to 1,290 billion yen. Intraday value also surpassed the 100 billion yen mark for the first time, reaching 124.1 billion yen on April 5.
    • Huge fluctuations in gold prices this month led to a large increase in the trading of ETF tracking the metal. "SPDR® Gold Shares (1326)," "Gold-Price-Linked Exchange Traded Fund (1328)," and "Japan Physical Gold ETF (1540)" showed monthly gains of 403%, 271%, and 145% respectively.
    • ETFs tracking the TOPIX-17 series ranked among the top gainers by change in trading value, and there is a trend toward trading by industrial sectors.

    The staff of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“Commission” or “SEC”) is planning to hold an SRO Outreach Conference (the “Conference”) this month. In anticipation of the Conference, I would like to address the challenges faced by self-regulatory organizations (“SROs”) as a result of the significant changes that the securities markets have undergone in the last decade, and the need for robust Commission oversight of SRO activities to enhance investor protection, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.

  • CFTC Charges Ron Eibschutz With Aiding And Abetting Disclosures Of Material Nonpublic Information About Customer Trades In Its Case Against The CME Group’s New York Mercantile Exchange And Two Former Employees

    The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today filed an amended Complaint in its pending enforcement action, U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission v. William Byrnes, et al. (U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, 13 CIV 1174), naming Ron Eibschutz as a Defendant in its ongoing case against the New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc. (CME NYMEX), and two former CME NYMEX employees, William Byrnes and Christopher Curtin. (See CFTC Press Release 6519-13, February 21, 2013.)
