Remarks By President Donald Tusk On The Agreed Outcome Of The Eurosummit Of 7 July 2015 On Greece

I will read out the statement agreed by leaders at tonight's Euro Summit:

1. We met tonight to discuss the serious situation in Greece. We noted that the euro area authorities stand ready to do whatever is necessary to ensure the financial stability of the euro area as a whole.

Main results

The Eurogroup welcomed the new Greek Minister for FinanceEuclid Tsakalotos who presented the situation in Greece following the referendum on 5 July 2015. 

The Eurogroup exchanged views on the way forward. 

Following the meeting Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem announced that the Greek government would submit a new request for financial assistance from the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). The request is expected tomorrow, 8 July 2015.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will attend tomorrow morning's key plenary debate on the future of Greece and the conclusions of his summit meeting on Tuesday with EU leaders and of the 25-26 June European Council. Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will join the debate, which starts at about 9.30 in the Strasbourg plenary chamber.
