CFTC Commissioner Sharon Y. Bowen today released the following statement after the Senate confirmation vote of J. Christopher Giancarlo as Chairman:

“I congratulate my colleague Chris Giancarlo on his Senate confirmation to be the Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.  The agenda of the CFTC and its hardworking staff will be in good hands with Chris as its leader. I am confident he will lead the agency forward to tackle not only the challenges presented by the 2008 financial crisis but also the challenges of the 21st century marketplace.  The CFTC has a tremendous challenge in fulfilling its mandate, because the markets we oversee today are vastly different than the agency’s traditional role.  Today, the CFTC oversees markets valued in the hundreds of trillions of dollars and transactions that happen faster than the blink of an eye.  In the time that I am a commissioner at the CFTC, I look forward to working with Chairman Giancarlo to completing the outstanding agenda items currently before the commission. The value of ASX-listed stocks, as measured by the All Ordinaries Index, rose 0.2% in July 2017. This was in contrast to most major markets, including Hong Kong up 6.1%, Singapore up 3.2%, the US up 1.9% and the UK up 0.8%. Japan was down 0.5% and Germany was down 1.7%.

CFTC: U.S. Senate Unanimously Confirms Giancarlo As Chairman, Quintenz And Behnam As Commissioners

The U.S. Senate today voted unanimously to confirm the nomination of J. Christopher Giancarlo as Chairman for the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. In addition, Brian D. Quintenz and Rostin Behnam were unanimously confirmed as Commissioners. Giancarlo has served as Acting Chairman since January. Giancarlo issued the following statement regarding his confirmation:
