Thank you Gary for that very kind introduction and thank you for your generous welcome. A big thank you to Symphony for hosting such an amazing conference. This is only your second conference, yet, in terms of your experience hosting conferences versus mine of giving speeches, you have me beat, so hopefully this isn’t the point where everything goes off the rails. But I appreciate the opportunity to speak with you today about the ways in which the government can advance and promote innovation in financial marketplaces. Before I begin, let me quickly say that the views contained in this speech are my own and do not represent the views of the Commission. Somewhere an ethics attorney is smiling.

Lord Mayor, it is a great pleasure to be at Mansion House once more. You are generous to say that you look forward to an evening of regulators speaking. And who doesnt?

I want to start by thanking you for all that you have done to support the City in your term of office. Amongst your hectic schedule, you fitted in a visit to the FCA in Tower Hamlets, for which we are very grateful. This is the last year in which I can say that, because next year we will be moving to Newham, to the Olympic Park to be precise. We will be next door to the Olympic Pool, so miscreants should be aware that enforcement will take on a new meaning with the penalty of walking the plank, also known as the high diving board.

At the Mansion House City Banquet this evening, Deputy Governor for Prudential Regulation Sam Woods will explore the impact of geography on the shape of banks, insurers and financial regulation – “a dynamic we might call geofinance”. With the revolution in regulation following the financial crisis coming to its end, and with changes to the geopolitical landscape looming large, Sam predicts that geofinance will be “the defining challenge of the next few years”. Alongside the speech, the PRA have announced a new approach to ensure that UK banking groups are “at least as strong as their parts”.

Invest Global – Buy Local: 429 International Stocks On The Vienna Stock Exchange

In June 2017, the Vienna Stock Exchange launched the segment global market. Since then, it has massively enlarged the range of offers for domestic investors and continuously added new international stocks. Today, an additional 137 blue chips from countries like France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands have been added to the price list, which already includes more than 130 US stocks and 160 German stocks. The Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli returned to the Milan stock exchange today as well. The global market of the Vienna Stock Exchange makes the largest initial public offering in Europe of this year immediately tradable for domestic investors at local fees.
